Tennis Edges Out Dowling, 5-4
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 23, 2010) – The C.W. Post women's tennis team won its second East Coast Conference match of the season by scratching out a 5-4 win over Dowling College Thursday afternoon.
The Pioneers were 2-1 in doubles and split 3-3 with the Golden Lions in singles.
Junior Aysylu Mardanova (Moscow, Russia) and sophomore Katie Avelar (Woodbury, N.Y.) edged out Cristina Sousa (Selden, N.Y.) and Amber O'Malley (Farmingville, N.Y.) in No. 2 doubles, 8-4. Avelar went on to win her No. 4 singles match, defeating O'Malley 6-2 and 6-0.
Senior Kristin Hetiler (East Rockaway, N.Y.) and sophomore Dorina Sousa (Carle Place, N.Y.) won in No. 3 singles over Chanida Monparpunth (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and Michelle DiSanto (Saint James, N.Y.), 8-4.
On the No. 3 court, junior
Morgan Milleisen (Bayport, N.Y.) defeated Cristina Hoffman (Floripa, Brazil), 6-1 and 6-2.
The Pioneers will return for a rematch against the Golden Lions on Saturday, Sept. 25 for a 3 p.m. match.
