Makamae Namahoe led the Pioneers with 10 kills

Volleyball Suffer Setback against #24 Dowling, 3-0

OAKDALE, N.Y. (Sept. 28, 2010) – Volleyball suffered its first loss due to a sweep to #24 Dowling, 3-0 (17-25, 21-25, 14-25). Dowling used 39 kills to a C.W. Post 31 to help produce offense. The Golden Lions also used 9 service aces to generate points. Freshman Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) registered double figures in kills, 10, for the Pioneers. That is her eighth time in double figures kills this year.
The Pioneers fell behind early in the match, and were only able to generate a .176 hitting percentage throughout the match. Namahoe was the leader in kills as well as hitting percentage, .304. Senior Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) contributed nine kills herself. She also put together 10 digs on the defensive side. 
Senior Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) made up 28 of the Pioneer 30 assists. Freshman Stephanie Coufal (Littleton, Col.) anchored the defensive side of the ball, as she led the team with 13 digs. 
Dowling put together a great team effort, as six players were a part of the 39 kills registered. The Golden Lions also put together 39 assists and 54 digs, as well as the before mentioned nine service aces. Graduate Student Patrycja Klekotka (Siedlce, Poland) led all participants with 11 kills. 
Junior Maja Potpara (Pljevlja, Montenegro) was the only player to record a double-double, as she put together 22 assists along with 12 digs. She also added nine kills with a .615 hitting percentage. 
The #24 Dowling Golden Lions improve to 11-0 on the year, 2-0 in conference, and will host Queens College on Sept. 30.
The Pioneers drop to 11-4 on the season and are now 1-1 in conference play.   The team will travel to East Stroudsberg this weekend to take part in a three game tournament. First match is scheduled for Oct. 1 against King College of Tennessee.
