Volleyball Splits Four Game Tournament at Kutztown
KUTZTOWN, Pa. (Sept. 7, 2010) -The C.W. Post volleyball team split its four-game schedule this past weekend at the Kutztown tournament in Pennsylvania. The Pioneers went 2-2 on Friday and Saturday, leaving the tournament with a .500 record.
In the first game, the Pioneers swept (25-16, 25-13, 25-20) the College of Saint Rose on Friday afternoon. Senior
Amanda Ostapow (East Setauket, N.Y.) led the squad in assists with 26 in the three games, while also contributing 11 digs. Sophomore
Geony Fisher (Goodyear, Ariz.) led the team with 19 digs and nine kills.
The Friday nightcap saw West Chester University of Pennsylvania defeat C.W. Post 3-1 (17-25, 25-10, 22-25, 23-25). The team totaled 44 kills and 86 digs in the match.
Saturday afternoon saw a battle against LeMoyne College go to 5 sets, with the Pioneers coming out on top in the final set (25-20, 21-25, 27-29, 25-21, 18-16).
Fisher once again led the Pioneers in kills with 22, while also contributing 15 digs. Freshman
Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) also was a large contributor to the Pioneer effort, tallying 15 kills.
C.W. Post faced off against tournament host Kutztown University of Pennsylvania in the tournament finale. The match went the distance, with Kutztown pulling out the victory in five sets (20-25, 27-25, 26-24, 25-27, 11-15). Senior
Marilena Guadagnini (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led the Pioneer attack with 23 kills, as well as leading the team in digs with 18.
The Pioneers return to action Tuesday evening at Georgian Court University with a 7 p.m. start. The home-opener will be Wednesday night, when the Pioneers will take on Felician College in a 7 p.m. matchup.
