Swimming Wins Three of Four at Two Day Of Blue Devils Duals Event

NEW BRITAIN, Conn.. (Oct. 15, 2011) – In four different dual matches over the past two days, the C.W. Post women's swimming squad won three of the four duals.  The Pioneers defeated Fairfield by the score 179-160, Southern Connecticut 208-133, Sacred Heart 60-48, and dropped a decision of 258-93 to Central Connecticut. 

The two days of events consisted of 40 events between both men and women teams.  The meet was hosted by Central Connecticut State University.

In the first race of the event, the Pioneer “A” relay team took second place in the 200 Freestyle Relay.  The foursome of Tamara Garriock (Duncan, Canada), Courtney Delehanty (Oceanport, N.J.), Mairi Morrison (Carnock, United Kingdom), and Cornelia Hanes (Stockholm, Sweden) finished with a time of 1:39.93. 

Garriock came back during the ninth event of the day to take a second place finish as an individual.  In the 200 Breaststroke race, the sophomore took home a 2:27.00 finishing time.  Hanes and Morrison also had solid individual showings during the 50 Free, the 11th event of the meet.  The duo finished third and fourth respectively with times of 24.89 and 25.02. 

Garriock, Hanes, and Morrison teamed with Sandra Luiga (Jarfalla, Sweden) to earn first place in the 200 Medley Relay, the first winning event of the event for C.W. Post.  This relay team took the victory with a clinching time of 1:50.06.  This same group came back in the 400 Medley Relay to earn a 4:00.52, second place finishing time.

In the 21st event of the meet, Garriock and Luiga earned second and third place finishes during the 200 Individual Medley.  Garriock finished in a 2:13.00 time, with Luiga just behind her with a 2:14.07 time.  Ten events later, Hanes earned a 54.34 time during the 100 Free, good enough for second place in the event. 

Freshman Catriona Laird (Saline, Scotland) came away with her first collegiate second place finish behind a 1:02.02 time during the 100 Fly event.  Morrison also earned another third place finish on the event, with a third place 1:03.15 finishing time during the 100 Back.  Garriock also tallied another second place finish during the 100 Breast, finishing the event in a time of 1:08.43. 

The Pioneers then capped things off with another first place finish in a relay event.  This time, it was the foursome of Delehanty, Garriock, Morrison, and Hanes coming away with a 3:37.38 time to win the race. 

Next for the Pioneers will be a dual match on Nov. 2 at Queens College.  The meet is set to take place at 5 p.m. at the Flushing campus.
