Volleyball Drops 3-0 Conference Match to Bridgeport
BRIDGEPORT, CONN. (Oct. 7, 2011) – The Purple Knights of Bridgeport used a balance attack to earn a 3-0 ( 18-25, 15-25, 24-26) victory over C.W. Post in tonight's ECC volleyball match. Bridgeport used 10 services aces and 36 kills to help secure the win over the Pioneers.
C.W. Post now moves to 1-4 in conference play with a 7-11 overall record. On the opposite side, Bridgeport moves to 4-1 in the ECC and improve to a 9-3 overall mark.
Biljana Savic got things started for the Purple Knights as she hit .400 in the first set with six kills to help start off the night. Many of those attacks came from teammate Tamara Leite, who used 11 assists to help pace the offense in the first set.
Stephanie Schwarz (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) put together 10 assists to spread out the Pioneers offense in the effort.
A second set .400 hitting percentage as a team during the second set helped Bridgeport go up 2-0 in the match, looking to seal the win. Leite earned all 13 assists in the second set to continue her impressive evening.
Lisa Delfs (Canandaigua, N.Y.) came up with five of the Pioneers 11 kills during the frame.
Delfs then went perfect during the third set with a 1.000 hitting percentage and eight kills. She also almost helped the Pioneers complete a comeback that saw the team down 10-17 at one point. A Pioneer attacking error and a Bridgeport kill earned the victory for the Purple Knights after the score was knotted up at 24 a side.
Delfs ended her night with 16 kills and a .565 hitting percentage. Schwarz also contributed to the effort with 32 assists to help keep the offense flowing.
Savic lead a balanced attack for Bridgeport with 11 kills as the team totaled 36 kills and Savic was the only one to reach double figures. Leite controlled setting duties as she ended the night with 33 assists.
C.W. Post will be back on the road this Tuesday for another conference match against Queens College. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. on the Flushing campus.
