Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 8, 2011) – In an East Coast Conference matchup between two nationally ranked teams, the sixth-ranked C.W. Post men's soccer squad came away with the victory, defeating No. 17 St. Thomas Aquinas 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers remain unbeaten and improve to 11-0 and 3-0 in conference play, while STAC suffers its first loss of the season and now stands at 6-1-4, 1-1-2 in the ECC.

The game was a possession battle from the get go, with the offenses fighting for any shot opportunity.  After a scoreless first half that saw each team take only two shots apiece, opportunities began to open up more, but neither team could finish until the 83rd minute.  Sophomore Cemil Turan (Staten Island, N.Y.) beat a defender at the  far right edge of the box and sent the ball sailing into the upper right corner past the outstretched reach of STAC goalkeeper Andrew Tartara.

C.W. Post was able to hold onto the lead, although not without intense pressure from a St. Thomas Aquinas, who took four shots in the last five minutes of play.  But Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) and the defense prevailed for the victory, with Jorgensen's three saves on the afternoon giving him the shutout and his 11th victory of the season.

Tartara made two stops in goal for the Spartans, who were outshot 10-7.  The Pioneers also owned a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.

C.W. Post remains at home to host NYIT on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. in another ECC game.
