BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 1, 2011) – The C.W. Post volleyball team pulled out a 3-0 sweep victory to defeat the Purple Knights of Bridgeport.  The Pioneers managed a .319 team hitting percentage to propel the victory, the second highest percentage of the year for the team.

C.W. Post now improves to 6-6 in conference play, with a 15-14 overall mark to this point in the season.  Bridgeport falls to 17-5 for the season and drops to 10-3 inside the ECC.

During the first set, the Pioneers were clicking on all cylinders as the team hit .591 to come out strong in the first set and earn a victory.  Heather Adams (Centerville, Ohio) led all individual Pioneers during the set with five kills as well as committing no errors and hitting a perfect 1.000 on the court.  As a defense, C.W. Post totaled four team blocks to help the cause.

Bridgeport was able to take an early lead in the second set, going up by three points on two different occasions.  The Pioneers then fought back to take a three point lead as well, this time at the 19-16 mark in the set.  The Purple knights pulled things close once again and both went back and forth till extra points were needed.  After a Laura Garbarino (Nutley, N.J.) put down a kill to even things at 24, an attacking error and a setting error allowed the Pioneers to earn two points and earn the set win.  Garbarino and Adams combined to tally a Pioneer block on the attacking error to help preserve the point.

The third set once again played close, similar to the previous second set.  Bridgeport also jumped out to an early lead, repeating the trend of the second set again.  The Pioneers fought all the way back to the brink of victory with a 24-22 lead.  However, the match needed to be decided through extra points to decide the winner.  With the score locked up at 26, Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) put down a kill off a Stephanie Schwarz (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) pass.  That played was then followed up by a Adam's service ace that gave C.W. Post the set and match victory.

Namahoe ended the night as the team leader in kills, notching 14 kills on a .379 hitting percentage to go along with 12 digs for her eighth double-double on the season.  Adams ended her night with a .368 hitting percentage to finish with a total of 10 kills on 19 attempts with only three errors.  Schwarz also played a huge role in tonight's victory, spreading the offense around with 41 assists.

On the defensive side, the Pioneers finished with five total team blocks to go along with 50 digs.  Emily Hoehn (Kearney, Neb.) finished with the team high of 20 digs.

Queens will be the next opponent for C.W. Post, as the Knights will come to the Pratt Recreation Center for a Pioneer home match this Thursday.  The match is set for a 7 p.m. start and will mark senior night for this year's season.
