Volleyball To Face Dowling in ECC Tournament Opening Round
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Nov. 10, 2011) – The C.W. Post volleyball team have qualified for the ECC Championship Tournament with an 8-6 conference mark. The Pioneers also hold a four-game winning streak in the conference, which is a part of an overall six-game winning streak to end the regular season.
C.W. Post will enter the tournament as the number four seed and will play against the top-seeded, Dowling Lions. The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. start tomorrow night, Friday, Nov. 11, at the Dowling Gymnasium. Prior to the start of this game, NYIT and Bridgeport will also play as the number two and three seeds respectively in a 5 p.m. match.
Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) ended the season as the kill leader for the Pioneers with 331 kills for a 2.81 kill per set average, which lands her inside the top 10 in the conference. Fellow sophomore,
Jordan Schroer (Kailua, Hawaii) also eclipsed 300 kills on the season, finishing the regular season with 301 kills. A majority of the C.W. Post's kills on the season were set up by
Stephanie Schwarz (Hoffman Estates, Ill.). Schwarz finished with a 7.14 assists per set average on a total of 764 assists, putting her among the top four setters in the conference.
As a team, the Pioneers were at the top of the conference in blocks with a total of 216.5 on the year. Freshman
Heather Adams (Centerville, Ohio) and junior
Lisa Delfs (Canandaigua, N.Y.) combined for a total of 152 to lead the team.
Bethany Shepard will go into the match at the top attacker for Dowling, as she accumulated 435 kills during the year for a 4.26 kill per set average to place her third among the conference's leaders. Many of her attacks were set up by Maja Potpara, who has exactly 1,000 assists on the year for a 9.80 assists per set average to be one of the top setters in the conference. Potpara also is skilled with her services as she is the top in the conference with 50 services aces on the year.
During the year, Dowling took both matches against C.W. Post by a combined score of 6-0.
