Men's Basketball Falls to Chestnut Hill, 93-80

28 points from senior guard Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) could not help the Pioneers overtake the Chestnut Hill Griffins, as they dropped a 93-80 non-conference men's basketball matchup on Wednesday evening. 

C.W. Post now stands at 2-1 on the season, while Chestnut Hill improves to 4-1 overall. 

C.W. Post quickly pulled out to a 6-0 lead in the game, only to watch Chestnut Hill score nine straight to claim the lead.  The teams battled back and forth for the lead, and with 7:59 to play, the teams were knotted at 17 apiece.  C.W. Post went on an 8-0 run, and held a 25-17 lead with 4:55 remaining to play, but the Griffins engineered a 16-2 run to take a 33-27 lead and a huge momentum shift into the halftime break. 

Coming out of halftime, Chestnut Hil pushed the lead to 11 at 18:03, leading 43-32, but the Pioneers stromed back to tie the game at 48-48 after putting together a 16-5 run.  The lead continued to see-saw as the teams knotted for the fifth time in the contest at 52-52 with 12:49 left to play.  But Chestnut Hill once again went on an offensive tear, pushing to a 64-55 lead courtesy of a 12-3 run. 

The Pioneers stayed close, trailing by five points (72-67) with 5:56 to play, but the Griffins hit several clutch shots and made 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to hold on to the lead and hand the Pioneers their first loss of the season.

Bonneau's 28 points came on 10-18 shooting including 4-7 from deep.  Terry Coleman (Newburgh, N.Y.) scored 13 points and added a team-high six assists.  Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) chipped in with 10 points.

Chestnut Hill was led by a double-double from Dan Comas, with 16 points and 12 boards.  Luke Dickson scored 13 points and dished a game-high eight helpers. 

The Griffins were the superior shooters on the evening, as Chestnut Hill shot 50.7% from the floor (38-75) and 42.9% from three-point range (6-14).  C.W. Post shot 45.8% (27-59) from the floor and 31.3% (5-16) from deep.  The Pioneers held a 41-39 edge on the boards. 

Chestnut Hill more than doubled up the Pioneers in the paint, 58-28, and forced the Pioneers into 22 turnovers, scoring 29 points off the miscues. 
 
C.W. Post travels to Bloomfield, last year's NCAA East Region Champion, to take on the Deacons on Saturday at 2 p.m.
