C.W. Post head softball coach Jamie Apicella announced that five players have committed to play college softball for the Pioneers.  Quincy Lewis (Corning, N.Y.), Kelsey McLaughlin (Lido Beach, N.Y.), Dana Moss (Howard Beach, N.Y.), Maria Palmeri (Middle Village, N.Y.), and Paige Swantek (Smithtown, N.Y.) will all join the program for the 2013 season.

“We are extremely excited about these five young ladies and what they are going to bring to the program both athletically and academically,” says Apicella.  “All five are scholar athletes and all are athletically gifted, and they will make an immediate impact on our program.”

Lewis is a dominating left-handed pitcher from Corning-Painted Post West High School, and plays her travel ball for the New Jersey Nightmare organization.  A varsity starter since seventh grade, Lewis has set a school record for ERA, hit .420 over the course of her career, and has been an All-State selection.  Her travel ball resume includes ASA and NSA state and national championships with the Nightmare and Lady Bandits.  Lewis boasts a 95 academic average and is a National Honor Society Member.

“Quincy is a left-handed pitcher who has a tremendous amount of confidence and has the experience, knowledge and ability to be a difference maker right away,” remarks Apicella.  “Her ability in the circle makes her one of the most valuable pitchers out there in the 2012 class and we are excited to have her apart of the C.W. Post family.”

Kelsey McLaughlin is a powerful right-handed hitter who has the ability to play a number of positions around the infield.  Her junior year at Long Beach High School saw her earn Class AA NYSSA 2011 All-State recognition at shortstop.  She hit .375 with five homeruns and 14 RBI in 2011 and is a two-time all-county selection.  In the classroom, she is an honor roll student.  She plays her travel ball for Team Long Island and Coach Angel Manuel.

“Kelsey is a pure athlete with tremendous power and versatility,” says Apicella.  “She has played against the best competition in the country while playing for Team Long Island, which will prepare her for top-level Division II competition. We feel she is a 5-tool athlete that can offer us an array of options.  The potential is there and we are very happy Kelsey is a Pioneer.”

Dana Moss is a smooth fielding first baseman who can hit for both power and average from the right side.  She plays her high school softball at Archbishop Molloy.  She is yet another talented product of the Long Island Sudden Impact program, which produced current C.W. Post players Jessica Julich, Liz Weber, Aly Dzierzynski, Nicole Ehlinger and Samantha Miller.  In 2011, Moss was named First Team All-Queens as a first baseman.  During Molloy's 2011 CHSAA state championship run, Moss hit 8-for-10 at the plate with five runs scored and three RBI in their final three games.

“Dana is an outstanding athlete that has the versatility to play first base or third base for us,” remarks Apicella.  “She works extremely hard to improve her game and will exhaust every effort to be the best she can be.  Dana is another one of our athletes who has played at a very high level playing for Bill Havdouglas and the LI Sudden Impact.  Her skills are there and the potential is fun to watch.”

Maria Palmeri is yet another potent right-handed bat in this signing class, with the athleticism to play multiple positions, as well as pitch.  The Archbishop Molloy High School and Sudden Impact star earned back-to-back All-Queens Player of the Year Honors in 2010 and 2011 and hit .478 as a sophomore.  She was named to the Class AA NYSSA All-State team in 2011 as a pitcher and shortstop.  She hit a crucial early inning home run in the 2011 city title game, and earned a complete game victory in the circle for Molloy in the state championship game.  Another outstanding student, Palmeri carries a 95 academic average.  She plays both her high school and travel ball alongside fellow signee Dana Moss.

“Maria has an impressive physical presence on the field,” says Apicella.  “Her strength coupled with a high level of athleticism sets her above the rest.  Maria is another LI Sudden Impact player who has an uncanny knack for being a natural leader. She can literally play anywhere on the field because of her speed and pure ability.  She will make an immediate impact in our line-up and we are excited to have signed the back-to-back Player of the Year in Queens.”

Paige Swantek possesses great defensive abilities behind the plate to go along with a strong right-handed bat.  A local product, Swantek comes from Commack High School, which produced current C.W. Post All-American Nicole Hagenah.  In 2011, Swantek was named Second Team All-Long Island as a catcher.  This followed a 2010 season that saw her named the League 1 Rookie of the Year, as well as being named an all-league, all-division and all-county selection.  She plays her travel ball for the Long Island Ducks organization.  She is an honor roll student with a 98 academic average.

“Paige is a pure power hitter who creates tremendous bat speed,” remarks Apicella.  “She has a strong presence behind the plate and has the skill to enhance the depth at the position of catcher.  We like the raw ability and we are excited about her potential.  She has a strong foundation coming from a program like the Ducks and also playing at Commack.  We are very excited she is joining the Pioneers in 2013.”
