Men's Basketball Grounds Felician, 92-78

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 27, 2011) – Four Pioneers scored in double figures as the C.W. Post men's basketball team pushed to a 92-78 victory over the Felician Golden Falcons on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Pioneers improve to 4-1 on the season while Felician slips to 0-4.
The first half began as a relatively low-scoring affair as both teams struggled shooting the ball. After several ties and lead changes, the Pioneers began to pull away midway through the half, taking a 21-15 lead at 11:47. A Felician three-pointer by John Tello made the score 21-18, but the Pioneers put together a 9-3 run that gave them a nine-point edge with 8:07 to play (30-21).
Felician pulled close again with 5:16 remaining, but the Pioneers pushed ahead again, taking an 11 point lead with 2:58 to play after a layup by
Terry Coleman (Newburgh, N.Y.). C.W. Post took an eight-point lead into the halftime break, up 47-39.
The Pioneers began the second half with a trey from
Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.), but Felician quickly pulled back to with five points, 50-45 at 17:10. But back-toback threes from Coleman and Bonneau, followed by five straight points by
Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) and a three-point play by
Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) gave C.W. Post an 19-point cushion, 64-45, with 13:39 remaining.
C.W. Post maintained its double-digit lead for much of the second half, but with under two minutes remaining, Felician made its move and cut the Pioneer lead to eight. However, Carberry hit a three and then proceeded to make 6-of-8 shots from the foul line as he helped the Pioneers seal the victory, 92-78.
Carberry's 23 points led the way for the Pioneers, as he shot 6-9 from the floor include 3-4 from deep and 8-11 from the charity stripe. Bonneau scored 22 despite missing the last 10 minutes of play due to leg cramps, and led the Pioneers with four treys. Coleman added a solid 18 points and five assists, while Allen registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
For the Golden Falcons, Tello led all scorers with 29 points on 11-21 shooting, while Antoine Obery scored 14 points and Anthony D. Green chipped in with 13.
The Pioneers shot a solid 54.7% from the floor (29-53), as well as 60% from deep (12-20) and 78.6% (22-28) from the free-throw line. C.W. Post held a 38-34 edge on the boards, but committed 28 turnovers.
The Pioneers will travel to Post University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
