Men's Basketball Eases Past Post, 77-65

WATERBURY, Conn. (Nov. 30, 2011) - Junior guard
Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) scored a game-high 24 points and
Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) registered a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards, and C.W. Post won a non-conference game on the road over Post University, 77-65, on Wednesday evening.
C.W. Post improves to 5-1 overall, while the Post Eagles are still searching for their first win at 0-5 overall.
Post University took an early lead in the contest, opening the game with a 10-5 run and doubling up the Pioneers in the first four minutes of play. As the midway point of the half neared, the Eagles held a 16-11 advantage. But C.W. Post chipped away, engineering a 16-4 run that gave C.W. Post a 27-20 lead with 7:02 remaining in the half.
The Eagles responded by outscoring the Pioneers 8-2 to cut the lead to a single point, 29-28 with 3:30 remaining. But the visitors built a five-point advantage to head into halftime up 37-32.
The second half was all Pioneers as the visitors built up a double-digit lead quickly, leading by as many as 17 points. The Eagles got no closer than a six-point deficit with 10:41 to play, but the Pioneers pushed the gap right back to double digits as they cruised to a 12-point victory.
Carberry's game high 24 points came on 10-of-15 shooting, and he added four assists and a steal to round out his night.
Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) added 16 points, three assists and two steals, while Allen's double-double saw him score 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
The Pioneers shot 48.3% from the floor (28-58) and 37.5% from long range (6-16), and held a sizeable rebounding advantage, 45-23, scoring 17 second chance points.
C.W. Post takes on Queens in a non-conference matchup at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3.
