GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Dec. 13, 2011) -  The C.W. Post men's basketball team stormed  back from a 22-point second-half deficit to make it a four point contest with 2:39 remaining, but the Pioneers were unable to complete the comeback as they fell to the Adelphi Panthers in a non-conference contest on Tuesday night, 83-79.

The loss marks just the second for the Pioneers on the season, as they now stand at 7-2 overall, while Adelphi moves to 8-1 overall.

The hosts pushed out to a quick 13-0 lead in the first five minutes of play, and took a 17-2 lead with 14:09 remaining.  The Pioneers responded with a drive of their own and pulled to within eight points (21-13) with 8:58 left in the first, but Adelphi quickly ran the lead back up to double digits, up by as many as24 points, and closed out the first half with an 18-point lead.

Adelphi continued to lead the way through much of the second half, but C.W. Post slowly but surely chipped away and cut the lead to single digits with under eight minutes remaining.

Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) hit a three at 2:39 to pull within four points, but Adelphi hung tough as Robert Johnson scored four of AU's six consecutive points and pushed the lead back to eight with 34 seconds to play.  A Bonneau layup and two Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) free throws cut it back to four with 11 seconds left, but Adelphi iced the game with two free throws by John Calarco and another by Chris Ranglin, and a trey at the buzzer by Vince Rosario (Perth Amboy, N.J.) was too little too late as the Panthers escaped with the victory.

Bonneau's 29-point night paced the Pioneers, while Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) added 18 points and Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) scored 17 and pulled down 13 boards.

AU was paced by 21 points from Robert Johnson.

The Pioneers will host LeMoyne on Monday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.
