Men's Basketball Continues Non-Conference Schedule Tonight, Hosting LeMoyne at 7 p.m.
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 19, 2011) – The men's basketball team of C.W. Post will continue a stretch against of non-conference games tonight as the Pioneers will face the LeMoyne Dolphins, the fourth of five Northeast-10 opponents on the schedule, at 7 p.m. in the Pratt Recreation Center.
The Pioneers are coming off a tough loss last Tuesday, Dec. 13, against Adelphi, 83-79. After being down 24 points late in the first half, C.W. Post managed to fight back to pull within four points a few times late in the game. The Panthers shot an efficient 53.6 percent from the field, compared to the Pioneers managing only a 34.3 percentage.
Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) contributed 29 points off the bench to push the effort, while
Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) also came off the bench to chip in a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Going into tonight's contest, C.W. Post is 7-2 overall on the season and averages 87.2 points per game while only allowing opponents to a 79.8 scoring average. The team has been aggressive with getting to the free throw line, as the Pioneers have made an average of 19.9 free throws per game. Also, the squad is currently outrebounding opponents on average of 9.0 boards per game.
Bonneau and
Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) continue to be the top two scorers for C.W. Post, as Bonneau is currently averaging 22.7 points per game while Carberry holds a 21.8 points per game average. Bonneau also leads the team with 22 total three-pointers made on the season and also has accumulated the team lead in total steals with 14. Carberry has continued to shoot the ball well this season to help afford his scoring average, as the junior swingman is currently at a 53.1 shooting percentage. Allen has also been a strong contributor with averages of 12.5 points per game and 8.5 rebounds a game.
The Dolphins of LeMoyne out of Syracuse, N.Y. are coming into tonight's game with a 4-5 overall record and a 2-5 mark inside the Northeast-10 conference. The most recent contest was a 77-55 victory over Post this past Saturday. The win also snapped a three-game losing streak. Shooting 60 percent from the field as a team, Chris Johnson led the way in the scoring column as the senior guard tallied 22 points behind six three-pointers made. Sophomore forward Brian Zapisek also had a strong performance, pulling down eight rebounds to go along with 13 points.
Through nine games played, the Dolphins are averaging 67.1 points per game while also letting opponents score the same average. The team has shot the ball well throughout the year, connecting on 46.7 percent of shots taken. LeMoyne has also been aggressive on the defensive end with 8.7 steals per game and holding an average rebounding margin of 2.7 over opponents.
Jim Janson, a 6-10 sophomore, is leading the team in both scoring (13.0 per game) and shooting percentage (61.0 percent) to this point in the season. He is second on the team in rebounding with 7.0 boards a game. Zapisek holds the team lead in rebounding with 7.1 a game to go along with his 11.9 points per game. Johnson has connected on average 2.2 three-pointers a game to help push his average of 9.3 points a game.
