Men's Basketball Returns Friday Night Against Southern New Hampshire
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 29, 2011) – The men's basketball team of C.W. Post will be returning to action for the last time in 2011 after not playing a game since Dec. 19 as the Pioneers welcome in the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University on Friday, Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. in the Pratt Recreation Center.
The Pioneers last were in game action back on Monday, Dec. 19, when the team played host to the LeMoyne Dolphins and were defeated by a final score of 97-81. The Dolphins shot an impressive 59.4 percent from the field as a team while C.W. Post only managed a 37.0 percentage. Brian Sopisek led LeMoyne with 30 points and nine rebounds while two other Dolphins scored 20-plus points.
Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) led the Pioneer effort with 23 points and 10 assists while fellow guard,
Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.), achieved his 1,000
th career point during the game and finished with 17 for the game.
C.W. Post now sits at 7-3 on the season after dropping the past two games and will look to get back on the winning track Friday night. Through 10 games this year, the Pioneers are averaging 86.6 points a game while only allowing opponents to score 81.5 per contest. The offense has been influenced by connecting on 19.7 free throws a game while also making 6.5 shots from beyond the arc a game. Also a team, the Pioneers have been on average outrebounding teams by 8.8 boards a game.
Bonneau currently holds the team lead in scoring with 22.7 point per game output behind a total of 26 shots made from long distance through the first 10 games. He is also currently leading the squad in steals with a total of 15. Carberry is directly behind Bonneau in the scoring column with a 21.3 average. The junior guard has shot the ball well with a 52.1 field goal percentage while also chipping in on the glass with 7.0 rebounds a game.
Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) leads the Pioneers in rebound average with 8.3 pulled down contest to go along with his 12.4 points per game and 54.9 shooting percentage.
The Penmen of Southern New Hampshire enter Friday night having not played since Saturday, Dec. 17, as the team defeated Queens, 74-60. Greg DeSantis came off the bench to lead the team with 19 points. As a team, Southern New Hampshire shot 44.8 percent from the floor and forced 18 Queens' turnovers on the defensive end.
Southern New Hampshire comes into Friday night's action with a 6-5 overall mark and 3-4 conference inside the Northeast-10 conference. As a team, the Penmen are scoring 70.7 points a game while holding opponents to 66.8 points a game. The offense has been solid beyond the arc, making 7.9 three's a game. The team has also outrebounded opponents by 3.2 boards a game as the Penmen pull in 38.7 rebounds a game. On the defensive end, the team forces 15.5 turnovers a game on opponents.
Elijah Bonsignore is scoring 12.5 points a game to lead the team, while shooting 53.5 percent from the field. He is also contributing 4.3 rebounds per game. B.J. Cardarelli is one of the top distance shooters for the team, as he has connected on 16 shots from three-point range to help his 10.5 point per game average and has pulled down 4.9 boards a game. The team's leading rebounder can be found in Tory Stapleton with his 7.1 per game average. Stapleton is also scoring 9.4 points a game is leading the team with 1.1 steals per game.
