Berardi, Hagenah Honored With ECC Weekly Awards
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (March 28, 2011) – A pair of C.W. Post softball players earned East Coast Conference honors this week. Senior Christina Berardi (Raynham, Mass.) was named Pitcher of the Week and freshman third baseman Nicole Hagenah (Commack, N.Y.) earned Rookie of the Week honors.
Berardi was 2-0 in two appearances last week with a 1.50 ERA. Pitching two complete games, Berardi allowed three earned runs on 11 hits without walking a single batter. She recorded 16 strikeouts, including 10 against St. Thomas Aquinas.
Hagenah batted .455, going 5-for-11 at the plate with eight RBI and four runs scored, including three home runs and a double against St. Thomas Aquinas and Queens. Hagenah blasted a three-run homer in the matinee game against St. Thomas Aquinas and added an RBI single in the nightcap. Against Queens, she hit a solo shot to left center in the first game and drove in the go-ahead run in the second game with another solo home run in the bottom of the sixth.
C.W. Post (11-5, 3-1 ECC) captured a pair of wins from cross-town rival, Adelphi, on Monday. The Pioneers resume action on Wednesday a American International College.
