Bright, Berardi, Hagenah Sweep This Week's ECC Softball Awards

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (April 25, 2011) – C.W. Post swept through this week's East Coast Conference weekly softball awards. Junior second baseman Kendall Bright (Manlius, N.Y.) was Player of the Week, senior Christina Berardi (Raynham, Mass.) captured Pitcher of the Week honors and freshman third baseman Nicole Hagenah (Commack, N.Y.) was named Rookie of the Week.
 
Bright was 10-for-19 (.526) at the plate that included a double and three home runs for 11 RBI and six runs scored.  In game one against NYIT, Bright was 2-for-3 at the plate with two homers, including a two-run shot in the fourth, for three RBI and two runs.  She went 3-for-4 in the first game against Mercy with three RBI, including a solo shot.
 
Berardi was 3-0 last week and did not allow a single earned run in any of her four appearances.  She went the distance in each of her starts against St. Thomas Aquinas, NYIT and Mercy. In all, she scattered 18 hits with two walks and nine strikeouts in 18.2 innings pitched for the Pioneers.  She allowed just three hits in each of her complete shutouts against STAC and NYIT. She held batters to a .119 average.  Berardi shares this week's honors with Dowling's Jessie Stavola, who tossed a perfect game against Queens.
 
Hagenah was 10-for-18 (.556) at the plate with nine RBI and six runs scored, including three doubles and two home runs.  She started the week off going for a combined 5-for-6 with six RBI and three runs scored, (including a solo home run in game two) at St. Thomas Aquinas.  Hagenah belted her team-leading 12th homer of the season in game one against NYIT.
 
C.W. Post (31-9, 17-5 ECC) has a busy schedule this week, beginning with home contests against Dowling on Tuesday and Molloy on Wednesday. The Pioneers head to Bridgeport on Saturday before closing out the week at home against Caldwell on Sunday.
