No. 25 Softball Stumps Out New Haven, 3-2, In Day 1 At NCAA East Regional

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (May 13, 2011) – Junior centerfielder Kerry Fisher (Barto, Pa.) came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning and hit a first-pitch single up the middle to score the go-ahead run as No. 25 C.W. Post defeated the University of New Haven, 3-2, in the first day of play at the NCAA Division II East Sub-Regional Friday afternoon.
C.W. Post improves to 37-14 overall and will face Caldwell College, who defeated Molloy College in the second game, 6-1, on Saturday at 11 a.m.. New Haven falls to 34-18 and will face Molloy at 1:30 p.m.
C.W. Post plated the first two runs of the game in the fifth. The first run came in on a double to left center from junior second baseman Kendall Bright (Manlius, N.Y.). Bright later came around to score on a fielder's choice bunt from junior catcher Kristen Morcone (Milford, Mass.).
The Chargers evened the score in the top of the sixth courtesy of a two-run single up the middle from Courtney Garland.
Senior Sarah Kiser (Arnold, Md.) came into the game in relief of starter Christina Berardi (Raynham, Mass.) in the sixth inning and pitched two shutouts innings with five strikeouts to earn the win. Berardi pitched the first five innings and allowed one earned run on seven hits and two walks while striking out three.
Micah Stonesifer took the loss for the Chargers after allowing three earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two.
