Tennis Falls to Dowling, 7-2, to Start 2011 Season
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 10, 2011) – Women's tennis underwent play on Saturday to begin the 2011 season. The Pioneers battled the Golden Lions of Dowling close and gave good effort, however, Dowling was able to secure a 7-2 victory over C.W. Post.
Being short a player, the Pioneers had to default two matches, putting them in 2-0 hole before play even began on Saturday afternoon.
In the first doubles match,
Morgan Milleisen (Bayport, N.Y.) and
Katie Avelar (Woodbury, N.Y.) were defeated by a score of 8-3. However, the other doubles match saw
Lejla Heco (Malmo, Swdedn) and
Erin Lawney (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) were able to secure a victory with an 8-4 score.
Avelar was able to avenge her doubles loss to win her singles match by a score of 6-0, 6-1. Heco almost earned the Pioneers another victory in singles, however, lost a tight set during the tiebreaker.
Pioneers tennis is back in action this Tuesday, Sept. 13, as Queens will come to the courts located on the C.W. Post campus.
