Volleyball Selected Third in the ECC Preseason Poll; Opens the 2011 Season Tonight
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Sept. 1, 2011) – After earning a NCAA berth in 2010, the C.W. Post volleyball team has been selected by the conference's coaches to finish third in the ECC according to the 2011 preseason poll. The Pioneers finished last season with a 20-13 record, including a 6-6 conference mark that help propel them into the NCAA Tournament East Region.
The Pioneers return six players from last year's squad, including All-Conference Second Team member, sophomore Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii). Namahoe led the team in blocks last season with 60 and while finishing second in kills (292) behind now graduated Marilena Guadagnini.
C.W. Post compiled 48 voting points, including one first place vote, to come in third in the preseason poll behind Bridgeport and Dowling. The top two schools each were credited with 56 points in the poll to finish in a tie for the top spot. Dowling was voted four times to finish first by the coaches, while Bridgeport earned two first place votes.
New York Institute of Technology earned the lone remaining first place vote to round out the top four teams with an accumulation of 45 total points. Fifth through eighth in the poll were awarded in order to Queens (27 points), Molloy (22 points), District of Columbia (21 points), and Mercy (19 points).
The Pioneers kick of the 2011 season this evening against Stonehill at 5 p.m. in Kutztown, Pa. as both teams participate in the Kutztown Tournament this weekend. C.W. Post will open conference play next Wednesday, Sept. 7, as they play host to #22 ranked in the nation Dowling College for a 7 p.m. match in the Pratt Recreation Center.
