Men's Basketball Trounces Mercy, 108-74

Vince Rosario (Newark, N.J.) scored a career-high 25 points including seven three pointers, leading four Pioneers in double figures as the C.W. Post men's basketball team overwhelmed Mercy College 108-74 on Wednesday evening in an East Coast Conference contest.
The Pioneers improve to 10-4 and remain unbeaten in conference play at 4-0. Mercy slides to 1-12 overall and 0-4 in ECC action.
The game started out with fast and furious scoring, as the teams were tied at 10-10 after just four minutes of play. But the Pioneers quickly engineered a 30-13 run that put them up by 17 points, 40-23, with 6:13 left in the half.
However, the visitors went cold from the floor for a few minutes, as Mercy answered the Pioneers run with a 15-6 run of their own to cut the visitor advantage to just eight points with 2:21 left, 46-38. But the Pioneers ran off seven straight points to close out the half and took a 15-point advantage into the halftime break.
The second half was all C.W. Post as the hosts could not compete with the standout shooting and superior rebounding of the Pioneers, who led by as many as 40 points (95-55 at 7:47) before finishing with a comfortable 34-point victory while going over the century mark for the second time this season.
Rosario's game-high point total came on the strength of 20 second half points, and the reserve guard made 7- of-11 attempts from beyond the arc, setting a new season-high for the Pioneers. Junior
Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) scored 22 points on 8-for-13 from the floor, while
Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) scored 17 points and blocked three shots. Senior guard
Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) had a solid night on the stat sheet, as he scored 13 points, dished a game-high seven assists, and grabbed five steals . Sophomore
Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) scored 13 points and grabbed eight boards while going a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.
Mercy held a 41-32 edge on the glass, but the Pioneers shot a blazing 58.3 from the floor (35-60) and a stellar 56.5% from beyond the arc (13-23) compared to 41% for the Mavericks (29-70) and just 3-12 from long range.
Joseph Pope's 14 points paced the Mavericks, who also got 13 from Jerrell Lawrence and 12 from Kortney Parker.
C.W. Post will next host Molloy on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
