Bonneau Scores 31 to Propel Men's Basketball Past Bridgeport, 94-78

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 4, 2012) – The C.W. Post men's basketball team snapped a three-game slide as the Pioneers earned their first victory of the new year with a 94-78 triumph over the Bridgeport Purple Knights.
Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) scored a season-high 31 points to lead the Pioneers, while
Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) added 21 and
Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) notched 18 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
C.W. Post improved to 8-4 overall and hold a 2-0 mark in the ECC, while the University of Bridgeport goes to 7-6 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Bridgeport opened the game with two quick three-pointers and grabbed a 6-1 lead, but the Pioneers evened the score at 8-8 on a three by Carberry. The Pioneers began to pull away as the half progressed, leading by as many as 11 (42-31) with 2:14 to play, but UB scored the last five points of the half to cut the lead to six, 42-36.
The second half started out with two consecutive three pointers from Bonneau, and C.W. Post qickly pushed its lead back to double digits. Bonneau stayed hot for the Pioneers, as he slammed home a dunk at 15:53 then nailed a trey, was fouled on the play, and hit the ensuing free throw at 15:08. He capped off his own 11-point scoring run with another spectacular dunk at 14:44, followed by another trey at 14:19.
The scoring spurt helped the Pioneers max their lead at as many as 16 points, but Bridgeport stayed close and pulled back to a single-digit deficit, and with 7:22 to play, William Harrison's trey cut the lead to six points, 74-68.
But the Pioneers took advantage at the free throw line, as Carberry hit a pair from the line at 6:53 and 6:17 to keep the Pioneers ahead to seven, and the Pioneers stretched the lead back to 10 after freshman
Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) hit two free throws with 3:51 to play. The Pioneer kept the Purple Knights at arm's length for the remainder of the contest as they finished with a 16-point margin of victory.
Bonneau's 31 points came on 12-24 shooting, including a season –high five three pointers. He also grabbed nine rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double. Williams joined Bonneau, Carberry and Allen in double digits with 12 points, as both he and Allen went 6-7 from the charity stripe.
Hakeem Rodriguez led the way for UB with 21 points. Darian David added 15, while Harrison scored 12 and Dante Menter chipped in with 10 points.
The Pioneers held a sizeable advantage on the boards as they outrebounded the visitors 48-28. C.W. Post shot a solid 47.85 from the floor (32-67) and was much improved from last time out at the free throw line, making 23-29 from the charity stripe for a 79.3% finish.
