Volleyball Extends Win Streak To Six, Downs Molloy 3-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 18, 2012) – The LIU Post volleyball team presented a spread out attack, with each of the nine players that entered the game tallying at least one kill to secure the 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-19) victory over East Coast Conference rival Molloy College.

LIU Post extends its win streak to six and improves its record to 17-10 (7-3 ECC), while Molloy drops to 7-15 (5-5 ECC).

The Pioneers took the first set win by a score of 25-20.  Junior middle blocker Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) registered a set-high four kills, while freshman setter Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) led all players in the set with eight assists.  Freshmen Harlee Meyers (Kailua, Hawaii) and Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawaii) each scooped up six digs.  The Lions' Sam Berna led the squad with three kills.

The Lions pulled closer in the second set, but the Pioneers were still able to pull out the 25-23 set victory.  Senior Lisa Delfs (Canandaigua, N.Y.) smashed five kills in the set to lead the Pioneers.  Amador once again led with six assists, and Meyers scooped up another six digs.  Shannon Appel and Deanna Miller led the Lions with four kills apiece.

LIU Post won the third set by a six point margin to secure the 3-0 match sweep.  Meyers crushed a set-high four kills, while Amador was once again the assist leader with seven.  Appel registered three kills for Molloy, and teammate Stefani Koelbel tallied six digs.

Heather Adams (Centerville, Ohio), Namahoe, and Delfs each recorded nine kills to lead the Pioneers' attack.  Adams added seven block assists.  Delfs hit an astounding .529 for the match.  Amador totaled 21 assists, and Meyers dug 15 balls.  LIU Post registered a total of 11 team blocks for its 12th double-digit block total on the season.

Appel and Berna led Molloy with eight kills, while Jennifer Koelbel tossed up a team-high 13 assists.

The Pioneers head to Franklin Pierce University Saturday, Oct. 20 as they face Southern Connecticut State University at 3 p.m. and the host Ravens at 5 p.m.
