BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 4, 2012) – After dropping the first set, the LIU Post volleyball team stormed back with three straight set wins to claim a 3-1 (17-25, 25-12, 25-17, 25-21) victory over conference foe Queens College with the help of 11 team blocks on the evening.

LIU Post improves to 11-9 (2-3 ECC), while Queens drops to 2-14 (2-3 ECC).

Queens took the first set handily, going on a 12-4 run during the middle of the match to go up 16-8.  The Knights led by as much as 11 late in the set, which was too much for the Pioneers to overcome.  Queens took the set 25-17.  The Knights' Arielle Dicoco led all players on the court with five kills in the first set.  Lisa Delfs (Canandaigua, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with four kills, and Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) added four digs.

An entirely different squad showed up for the Pioneers in the second set.  Leading the Knights 8-6, Harlee Meyers (Kailua, Hawaii) emitted consistency for the Pioneers with eight straight serves for her squad to help LIU Post to a 15-7 advantage.  Four Queens' attack errors allowed the Pioneers to close out the set with a 25-12 victory.  Heather Adams (Centerville, Ohio) recorded a set-high four kills, and freshman Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawaii) scooped up a set-high eight digs.  Delfs combined for four total blocks on the set.

The Pioneers remained focused and did not let the Knights back into the game in the third set.  Namahoe closed out the set with five straight serves to help her team to the 25-17 set win.  Ringor and the Knights' Xhesi Domi each registered five digs on the set.  Adams knocked down an astounding seven kills for the Pioneers.

With the victory in sight, the Pioneers grabbed a third straight set victory to win the match 3-1.  LIU Post only led by as much as six at any point during the set, but the Knights would not go away without a fight.  Queens went on a mini-run to pull within one with the score at 15-14, but the Pioneers would eventually put the Knights away taking the set win 25-21, clinching the match for LIU Post.  Dicoco once again was the kills leader with four, but ten total errors for the Knights was too much to come back from.  Namahoe tallied five digs in the set for the Pioneers.

Adams led all players on the night with 16 kills.  She also added seven digs and five blocks for a well-rounded stat line.  Delfs made her presence known at the net with six block assists and two solo blocks and adding nine kills.  Lulu Centro (Rome, Italy) was the assist leader for the Pioneers with 21, and Ringor scooped up an LIU Post high 18 digs.

Dicoco led the Knights with 13 kills, while Ceren Kilic led all players with 28 assists.  Four different Knights registered double-digit dig totals on the night.

The Pioneers head to New Haven, Conn. Friday, Oct. 5 to take on the Chargers at 7 p.m.
