Namahoe's 12th Double-Double Not Enough To Lift Volleyball Past Chargers

NEW HAVEN, CONN. (Oct. 5, 2012) – The 12t(h double-double for
Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) on the season was not enough to lift the LIU Post volleyball team over the University of New Haven Friday night, dropping the match 3-1 (25-17, 25-22, 13-25, 25-16).
LIU Post falls to 11-10 (2-3 ECC), while New Haven improves to 11-1.
The Chargers came out of the gate defending its home court immediately taking the first set 25-17. Four different UNH players knocked down three kills apiece, while Keidy Candelaria led all players with seven digs. Namahoe and
Susy Cricchi (Borgovelino, Rieti, Italy) each added three kills for the Pioneers.
The second set claimed nine different times with a tied score, but the Chargers were able to pull out the win grabbing five of the last seven points scored for a 25-22 set win. Namahoe, along with
Heather Adams (Centerville, Ohio), tallied three kills each on the set. Adams added nine digs for the Pioneers. Candelaria and Kristy Atufunwa registered four kills apiece for the Chargers, and Candelaria scooped up a set-high 10 digs.
With the match on the line, the Pioneers came out firing and took the third set 25-13. LIU Post took advantage of three separate 12 point leads during the set and two six point runs behind the serving of freshmen
Harlee Meyers (Kailua, Hawaii) and
Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawaii). The Pioneers continued its strong net presence with five total blocks in the set, including three block assists and one solo block from senior
Lisa Delfs (Canandaigua, N.Y.). Namahoe registered three kills for the third straight set.
The two squads had the set tied at 9-9, when New Haven exploded with a 16-7 run to close out the set 25-16 claiming the match 3-1. Amber Cannady of the Chargers had a set-high five kills, and Adams led the Pioneers with three kills.
Adams led the Pioneers on the night with 19 digs. Ringor, Meyers, and Namahoe each added double-digit dig totals. Namahoe knocked down 11 kills for the only Pioneer with double-digit kills. Delfs finished the night with four block assists and one solo block to add to the Pioneers eight team blocks.
Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) tossed up a Pioneer high 24 assists.
New Haven's Kaulana Ane recorded a dominating 45 total assists. Four Chargers were able to record double-digit kill totals, along with four individuals with double-digit dig totals. Kristen Lee and Candelaria both finished the night with double-doubles.
The Pioneers return to action Tuesday, Oct. 9 at the University of Bridgeport at 7 p.m.
