BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 6, 2012) – The LIU Post women's swim team won 11 of 14 events and posted a new pool record in the 200-yard backstroke by freshman Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.) with a time of 2:06.44, as the Pioneers swam to a 155-104 victory over the Wagner College Seahawks on Saturday in the Pratt Recreation Center Natatorium.

Kwok had a great first collegiate meet by placing first in the 200-yard backstroke with a Pioneer top five time and a new pool record.  She also placed first in the 200-yard butterfly with a NCAA 'B' cut time and top five finish for the Pioneer swim team. Kwok was also a part of the LIU Post 200-yard medley relay team that posted a 'B' cut time of 1:47.75 and took first place along with sophomore Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden), junior Tamara Garriock (Duncan, British Columbia, Canada), and freshman Marthe Soerensen (Stavanger, Norway).

Garriock also took two individual first place wins to go along with her relay victory.  Her 'B' cut time of 1:54.26 in the 200-yard freestyle granted her a spot on the top five list for the Pioneers.  She also was able to slap the wall for a first place time of 2:26.40 in the 200-yard breaststroke.

With three-hundredths of a second to spare, Pettersson grabbed another victory for LIU Post with a time of 1:01.30 and Wagner's Erin Malone close behind with a time of 1:01.33.  Pettersson swam the 200-yard backstroke in 2:08.35 to take second place and another Pioneer top five finish in that race on the afternoon.

Soerenson teamed up with freshman Meghan Brazier (West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada),  sophomore Courtney Delehanty (Oceanport, N.J.), and senior Mairi Morrison (Carnock, Scotland) to just edge out Wagner's squad in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a first place time of 1:38.45.  Soerenson also narrowly edged out teammate Morrison with a time of 54.19 to take first place in the 100-yard freestyle.  Morrison was able to reach the wall a tenth of a second before Soerenson in the 50-yard freestyle, giving the Pioneers both the first and second place wins in that race.

Brazier took an individual win in the 100-yard backstroke (58.73) grabbing a Pioneer top five time.
Senior Sandra Luiga took an individual win in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.17), narrowly edging out the Seahawks' Kara Lacoste who reached the wall in 1:09.89.
Lacoste helped the Seahawks to an individual win in the 200-yard individual medley hitting the wall in a time of 2:14.30.

Wagner's Alexandra Cooney grabbed two individual wins in the 500-yard freestyle and 1,000-yard freestyle with times of 5:16.18 and 10:47.85, respectively.
