BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 14, 2012) – The LIU Post volleyball team closed out its 2012 regular season with a 3-1 loss to the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights Wednesday evening in the Pratt Recreation Center. The set scores were 25-16, 20-25, 25-17, and 25-18.
LIU Post finishes the season with a record of 22-13 (11-5 ECC), while Bridgeport closes its season at 22-4 and 15-1 in conference play.
Sophomore
Heather Adams (Centerville, Ohio) and freshman
Harlee Meyers (Kailua, Hawaii) each tallied 10 kills for the Pioneers, while sophomore
Lulu Centro (Rome, Italy) and freshman
Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) tallied 16 and 12 assists, respectively. Junior
Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) and freshman
Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawaii) scooped up 20 digs a piece.
Bridgeport's Darsel Springer and Ying Shen led all players with 14 kills each. Fernanda Silva tossed up a match-high 39 assists, and Taylor McBeth registered a match-high 23 defensive digs.
The Purple Knights closed out the first set with three straight points, but the Pioneers came roaring back in the second set starting the set off with four straight points behind the serving of Namahoe. Later, a kill by Namahoe put the Pioneers up 14-5, but the Purple Knights followed with a run of their own bringing the score to 14-10. The Pioneers were resilient in the set, closing it out on a kill by Namahoe off a feed from Amador to take the 25-20 win.
Bridgeport grabbed the final two sets with ease. Shen registered seven kills in the third set, and Springer added six in the fourth.
LIU Post advances to the East Coast Conference tournament held at the top seeded University of Bridgeport. The Pioneers will face NYIT on Friday.
