Men's Basketball Set To Open Up Play At Home Saturday

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 16, 2012) – The LIU Post men's basketball team looks to get back in the swing of things as it opens up this season's play at home in the Pratt Recreation Center against Post University Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers are currently 0-2, but have opened up with two tough opponents in No. 10 Franklin Pierce University and Southern New Hampshire University.  To this point, the squad is averaging 63.5 points per game and shooting a consistent .422 from field goal range.  The team has out blocked its opponents 12-6 over the two game span.

Coming off a season where they both garnered ECC First Team recognition, junior Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) and senior Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) have led the Pioneers offense so far.  Allen has started off the season shooting 66.7 percent from the field and is nearly averaging a double-double with 20.0 points per game to go along with 9.0 rebounds per game.  Carberry has chipped in his share of points averaging 15.0 per game.

Reigning ECC Rookie of the Year Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) has continued his strong play, leading the team on the glass hauling in 11.5 rebounds per game while adding 8.0 points per game.  Sophomore Charles McCann (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) has an impressive eight total blocks in just 37 minutes.

The men's squad of Post is off to a 2-1 start, including an overtime thriller against Queens College which the Eagles pulled out the 79-78 win.  The team will be looking to keep up its average of 76.3 points per game while giving up just 64.3 points per game.  The Eagles have been out-rebounded by their opponents, as Post has averaged 43.3 while its opponents have averaged 48.0 rebounds per game.

Jerry Cummings is the leading scorer for the Eagles with a 15.0 point per game average to go with a 34.7 field goal percentage.  He is also second on the team in rebounding average with 9.7.  Jake Wilcox is second on the team with a 12.3 point per game clip and leads the team with 5.7 assists per game.  Travis Carbajal leads the squad with 10.0 rebounds per game.
