Namahoe And Delfs Grab ECC All-Conference Second Team Recognition

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Nov. 16, 2012) – The East Coast Conference has released its volleyball All-conference and major awards with two LIU Post members earning spots on the ECC All-Conference Second Team.  This is the third straight year junior Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) has made the lis with senior Lisa Delfs  (Canandaigua, N.Y.) making her first appearance.

Namahoe earned the honor after leading this year's Pioneer squad in kills (366), kills per set (2.77), and total points (436.5).  The junior also finished the season with 527 digs and 58 blocks in 132 sets played this season over 35 matches.  Namahoe is currently ranked second in the conference in total digs and total attacks, and ranks fourth in total points.

Delfs is currently enjoying a breakout year in which she leads the teams in all blocking categories: 32 block solo, 104 block assists, 136.0 total blocks, and 1.03 blocks per set.  She is second on the team in kills (317), kills per set (2.40), and total points (425.0).  Delfs is currently ranked first in the conference in block assists and total blocks, and her block solo total ranks her second in the ECC.

For the conference's major awards, Dowling's Bethany Shepard took home the top award as she was named the ECC Volleyball Player of the Year.  Morgan Mutranowski of Dowling garnered the Libero of the Year award, and Roberts Wesleyan's setter Maggie Concannon was named the Rookie of the Year.  Coach of the Year honors were presented to Jon and Kirsten Meyers of Roberts Wesleyan.

The LIU Post team will be in action this evening, as the Pioneers will face off against the number two seed NYIT Bears in the ECC Tournament.  The match is set to follow the number two and three seeded game, Bridgeport and Dowling, at Bridgeport.  The first match is set to begin at 5 p.m., with the Pioneers' match scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
