Bridgeport Claims 2012 ECC Volleyball Crown With 3-1 Win Over The Pioneers

BRIDGEPORT, CONN. (Nov. 17, 2012) – Despite winning the first set, the LIU Post volleyball team was unable to complete the upset over No. 1 seeded University of Bridgeport in the East Coast Conference Championship Final Saturday evening. The Purple Knights grabbed a 3-1 victory with set scores of 23-25, 25-18, 26-24, and 25-20.
Led by ECC Championship Tournament Most Outstanding Player Ying Shen's match-high 21 kills with a .400 attack percentage, the top-seeded Purple Knights captured the win over the third-seeded Pioneers bringing Bridgeport's record to 25-4 with LIU Post slipping to 23-14.
Senior
Lisa Delfs (Canandaigua, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with 12 kills and nine total blocks. Junior
Susy Cricchi (Borgovelino, Rieti, Italy) also knocked down nine total blocks. As a team, the Pioneers racked up an impressive 16 total blocks on the night. Sophomore
Heather Adams (Centerville, Ohio) chipped in 11 kills, and freshman
Melissa Hansen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) added nine kills of her own with a team-leading .348 attack percentage. Freshman
Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) and sophomore
Lulu Centro (Rome, Italy) continued to split the setting duties tossing up 19 and 18, respectively. Freshman
Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the Pioneers with 13 digs.
Bridgeport's Biljana Savic recorded a double-double with 20 kills and 10 digs, and Fernanda Silva registered 46 assists and 10 digs.
The Pioneers wait to hear their fate in the NCAA Division II East Regional when the entire NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championship field of 64 is announced at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday evening.
