Carberry and Burns Pick Up ECC Weekly Accolades
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (November 26, 2012) - Following the first win of the 2012-13 season for the LIU Post men's basektball team, two players who made a solid impact on the game earned East Coast Conference recognition as
Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) was named Player of the Week, and
Dillon Burns (Staten Island, N.Y.) earned Co-Rookie of the Week.
Carberry helped the Pioneers to their first win of the season with 21 points including two free throws with six seconds remaining to propel the team to victory. He also pulled down four rebounds and grabbed one steals. In the win, Carberry shot 6 of 13 from the floor and was 9 of 11 from the charity stripe.
Burns scored a career-high 17 points, shooting 4 of 7 from beyond the arc and 6 of 11 from the floor to help the Pioneers to their first victory of the season. He dished out a game-high seven assists while also picking up three steals and two boards, and only committing one turnover in the win.
Tyrel Dixon of Roberts Wesleyan shared Rookie of the Week honors with Burns.
Next on the slate for LIU Post is an ECC-opening home contest against Bridgeport on Saturday, Dec. 1 starting at 3:30 p.m.
