Both Basketball Teams in Action on Saturday
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (December 7, 2012) – Both the men's and women's basketball team will be in action tomorrow as the women host non-conference Pace University at the Pratt Center at 1:30 p.m., while the men travel to East Coast Conference foe Dowling College for a 3 p.m. contest.
The LIU Post women's basketball team suffered their first setback of the season in their last outing, a 57-46 loss to conference rival Dowling College, and will look to rebound against the Setters. Led by senior
Nicolette Marciniak's (Brooklyn, N.Y.) 15.6 points per game, four Pioneers are averaging double figures. Senior
Ashley Caggiano (Holtsville, N.Y.) and sophomore
Chelsea Williams (Copiague, N.Y.) are averaging 12.2 points per game, and senior
Samantha Kopp (Franklinville, N.Y.) is averaging a double-double with 10.0 points per game and 10.4 rebounds per game. Marciniak is also strong on the glass, averaging 8.2 boards per game. Coming off a 74-54 loss to Adelphi in their most recent outing, the Setters are led by Brittany Shields' 14.9 points per game, which ranks her sixth in the NE-10 in scoring. Shooting 53.1 percent from the floor, she has made 43-of-81 attempts from the floor and is 18-of-27 from the charity stripe. Shields is also the top rebounder with 8.3 boards per game. Margo Hackett is second on the team in the scoring column, registering 9.7 points per game with a 30.3 shooting percentage from beyond the arc, averaging 4.7 treys per game. With a 5-2 record overall (4-2 NE-10), the Setters are averaging 54.9 points per game and have a +3.1 margin on the glass. As a team, Pace is shooting 41.3% from the floor (151-of-366) and 31.2% from downtown (24-77).
The men's team travels to Dowling to take on the Golden Lions, seeking their second straight victory following an 0-3 start to the season. Senior
Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) leads the Pioneers with 18.4 points per game, while junior
Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) is right behind with 16.4 points per game. Sophomore
Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) is the top performer on the glass, pulling down 9.8 boards per game and Allen is adding a strong 7.0 boards per game. The Pioneers are shooting 46.1% from the floor (130-282) and are averaging 11.8 assists per game while out-rebounding opponents by a +7.4 margin.
Dowling has lost two straight, and has an overall record of 2-4, losing their conference opener 82-80 to St. Thomas Aquinas last time out. The Golden Lions have a trio of players scoring in double figures, led by Josh Malone's 11.4 points per game. Corwin Austin as averaging 11.2 points per game, and Darien Davis is adding 10.6 points per contest. The Golden Lions are averaging 66.8 points per game, shooting at a 42.0% clip and averaging 33.0 rebounds per game, a -2.6 margin to their opponents.
