Men's Basketball Pushes Past Queens, 75-53

BROOKVILLE, N.Y (Feb. 15, 2012) – Balanced scoring led the C.W. Post men's basketball team past Queens on Wednesday evening, 75-53, in East Coast Conference action.

The Pioneers improve to 18-5 overall and remain a game ahead of the District of Columbia in the ECC standings with a 12-1 record.  Queens slips to 4-19 overall and holds a 3-10 mark in conference action.

C.W. Post jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start the game, but Queens came back to take a 6-5 lead, and the teams battled back and forth before deadlocking at 10-10 at the 12:39 mark.  Queens took a 13-10 following a jumper by Pat Piasecki, but the Pioneers took complete control of the remainder of the first half and outscored Queens by a 29-7 margin to head into halftime with a 39-20 lead. 

Coming out of the second half the Pioneers remained firmly and control, outscoring the 25-11 in the first ten minutes to take a 57-31 lead.  The lead topped out at a 30-point advantage for the hosts at the 3:04 mark, and the Pioneers easily rolled past Queens for their third victory this season over the Knights. 

Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) and Vince Rosario (Newark, N.Y.) paced the Pioneers with 16 points apiece and Allen went 8-10 from the line and also grabbed eight rebounds, and Rosario hit four treys and went 5-9 from the floor.  Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) added 15 points, and Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) chimed in with a 10-point night. 

Khalil McDonald was the high man for Queens with 14 points, and Piasecki added 11 for the Knights.

Only three regular season games remain for the Pioneers, as they travel to Molloy on Saturday for a 1p.m. contest, host Dowling on Monday at 2 p.m. then wrap up the regular season by hosting the District of Columbia on Saturday the 25th at 1:30 p.m.
