Saturday Doubleheader for Men's and Women's Basketball at Molloy
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 16, 2012) – Coming off impressive wins this past Wednesday, both the men's and women's basketball teams of C.W. Post will travel to Molloy on Saturday for a ECC doubleheader.
The women's team is coming off an 88-55 victory on Wednesday over Queens and have improved to 9-5 in the ECC and are 18-8 overall. As a defense, the Pioneers were able to create 28 turnovers spurred by 21 steals and generated that defensive effort into 39 points on the offensive end. Five players on the C.W. Post roster figured into double digit point scoring, led by
Samantha Kopp (Franklinville, N.Y.) and her 13 points to go along with eight rebounds.
Alexis Peters (Dorchester, Mass.) contributed 12 points, five assists, and three steals to the effort.
Compared to opponents on season, C.W. Post has shot 41.2 percent while only allowing 37.6 percent shooting on the other end. This has helped lead to a 9.1 scoring margin in the 26 games played this season. The team has also outrebounded opponents by a 8.4 margin per game while also coming up with 9.7 steals per game.
Being the top scorer for Pioneers almost all season has been
Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), who has her scoring average at 17.3 points per game while playing 34.1 minutes a game.
Catherine Lutz (Easton, Pa.) has also been a threat on the offensive end, knocking down 45 three-pointers to account for 8.7 points per game.
Nicolette Marciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) has been one of the better rebounders in the conference with 9.9 boards a game to go with 10.0 points. Kopp has also been a strong rebounder with 7.2 boards per game and has remained a presence in the scoring post with 8.4 points per game.
Molloy has reached a 7-7 conference record and 11-13 after Wednesday night's win over Dowling, 56-51. The Lions were able to force 16 turnovers during the contest and also shot a 37.9 percent in comparison to a 33.3 percent shot by Dowling. Ashley Addison led the Lions with 16 points.
The Lions have benefitted by 14.7 free throws per game to push the team's scoring average to 63.2 points per game. The team has also remained close in many statistical areas as Molloy does hold a positive .9 average in turnovers.
Shooting 85.6 percent from the line as an individual, Amanda Bartlett has been the lone double-figure scorer for Molloy with 17.4 points per game. Her scoring average has been helped by 2.2 three-pointers made per game. Jessica DeNicola has been a solid low post contributor with 9.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Leading the team in assists has been Laura Rivera with 4.3 assists a game.
With this being the second meeting of the season, these two teams met back on Jan. 14 which resulted in an 80-51 victory for C.W. Post. The Pioneers shot 53.2 percent during the game while the Lions only managed a 32.0 percentage. C.W. Post also controlled the glass with a 51-19 rebounding edge.
Chelsea Williams (Copiague, N.Y.) scored 12 points with
Shayna Gatling (Baldwin, N.Y.) chipping in 11 points and eight rebounds.
With an 18-5 overall record and a 12-1 conference mark, the men's team of C.W. Post accomplished these marks after Wednesday's 75-53 win over Queens. Shooting 46.3 percent and forcing 23 turnovers, the Pioneers defense also only allowed 32.1 percent shooting for Queens.
Vince Rosario (Perth Amboy, N.J.) and
Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) each led with 16 points apiece and
Amir Tarif (New York, N.Y.) controlled 11 rebounds.
The Pioneers offensive advantage has now pushed to a positive 10.1 scoring margin per game and have contributed that to 18.6 free throws made per game. At the same rate, the team has been able to control the battle on the backboard with 7.3 rebounds per game more than teams played.
With a total of 64 three-pointers made on the season in 33.8 minutes per game,
Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) has tallied 21.8 points per game. Coming in at second on the team in scoring is
Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.). Carberry's scoring average is now at 17.3 points per game and is rebounding 5.7 boards a game. Allen is now shooting 52.6 percent from the field to accomplish 15.4 points per game and is pulling in a team lead of 9.1 rebounds per game.
With a 71-65 loss on Wednesday to Dowling, the Molloy's men's team has now fallen to 5-9 in the ECC with an 8-16 overall mark. Dowling converted on 18 free throws and were able to hold a 39-30 rebounding advantage. Jimmy Nolan scored 20 points and dished out five assists for the Lions with John Petrucelli leading with 23 points and eight rebounds.
Despite being outscored by 4.9 points per game to this point in the season, Molloy has been true on 17.1 free throws per game while shooting 74.5 percent from the charity line. The team's defense is also getting in the passing lanes well with 8.4 steals per game.
Nolan has been the lead scorer with 18.0 points per game has he has knocked down on average of 3.5 shots from beyond the arc while shooting 38.2 percent from that range. Petrucelli leads the team in rebounds with 6.8 a game as well as 2.7 steals per game to along with his 17.3 points per game. Richard Zoller is also one of the better shot blockers in the conference with 1.3 rejections a game.
Back on Jan. 14, the Pioneers and Lions went head-to-head with C.W. Post earning a 70-48 win. The Pioneers dominated inside with 44 points in the paint and also came up with 20 second chance points as the team controlled the glass by a 52-30 margin. Behind four shots made from three-point range, Bonneau tallied 18 points while
Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) scored eight points to go with 12 rebounds.
Molloy is set to host the doubleheader with a 1 p.m. start for the women with the men to follow at 3:30 p.m.
