Women's Swimming Wraps Up Day Two at the Metropolitan Championships

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 18, 2012) – The women's swimming team of C.W. Post completed day two of the Metropolitan Championships with a solid showing at Rutgers.

After a morning of preliminaries, the Pioneers started the finals portion of the day in the 200 medley relay.  The C.W. Post team of Johanna Pettersson (Kunglav, Sweden), Tamara Garriock (Duncan, Canada), Cornelia Hanes (Stockholm, Sweden), and Mairi Morrison (Carnock, Scotland) earned a 'B' cut as well as a first place finish in the event with a time of 1:45.39.

Hanes then earned another 'B' in her individual 100 fly event with a third place finishing time of 57.29.  Also participating in that event was Sandra Luiga (Jarfalla, Sweden), as she swam a 59.70 time to complete the race in eighth place.  Catriona Laird (Saline, Sweden) took part in the 'B' heat of this event and finished with a time of 59.92 while Sandra Kirstein (Hollviken, Sweden) took a 1:03.04 time during the 'C' heat.

Garriock completed the 200 free event with a 'B' cut time of 1:52.00, also qualifying as a first place finish in the event.  Malin Hedberg (Vasteras, Sweden) came in the eighth spot with a 1:59.63 completion time.  Courtney Delehanty (Oceanport, N.J.) took a 1:59.41 during the 'B' heat with Angelica Norrena (Solna, Sweden) registering a 2:03.15 event time. 

Chelcee Hew (Savage, Minn.) was the lone Pioneer to participate in the 100 breast, finishing seventh with a 1:07.86 time. 
The next event for C.W. Post was the 100 back, as Pettersson took home first place and a 'B' cut time of 56.38.  Morrison finished in the same heat with a time of 100.92 while Maxianne Russo (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) took part in the 'C' heat with and finished with a time of 1:06.24.

In the final event for Saturday, the team of Delehanty, Hew, Hedberg, and Norrena took part in the 800 free relay and finished with a time of 8:01.58 to come in fourth place.

Tomorrow will conclude the championships at Rutgers, with the preliminaries once again starting things at 9:30 followed by the finals in the evening.
