Women's Swimming Finishes Second At Metropolitan Championships

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 19, 2012) – The third and final day at the Metropolitan Championships was another successful day for the C.W. Post women's swimming team as the team earned a second place overall finish. 

The final event day started in the 1650 free, as Malin Hedberg (Vasteras, Sweden) took to the pool.  Hedberg finished the distance event with a third place time of 18:06.05.

Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden) then participated in the 200 back event and earned a NCAA 'B' cut with her 2:06.90 time to place her in second.  In the same event, Sandra Luiga (Jarfalla, Sweden) competed in the 'B' heat and finished with a time of 2:13.41.

In one of the more Pioneer filled events, Cornelia Hanes (Stockholm, Sweden) earned a 'B' cut with a 52.94 time to land in third place.  In that same heat, Courtney Delehanty (Oceanport, N.J.) took a sixth place time of 53.24 while Mairi Morrison (Carnock, Scotland) finished in eighth with a 54.43 time.  Angelica Norrena (Solna, Sweden) was the in the 'B' heat for this event and registered a 55.09 time.  In the 'C' heat of the event was Sandra Kirstein (Hollviken, Sweden) and Maxianne Russo (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) as Kirstein came in at 55.63 and Russo clocked in at 57.44.

Another 'B' cut was achieved for the Pioneers during the 200 breast as Tamara Garriock (Duncan, Canada) qualified in third place with a time of 2:23.17.  Chelcee Hew (Savage, Minn.) also participated in the event and finished in a time of 2:26.93. 

Catriona Laird (Saline, Scotland) was the lone representative in the 200 fly, as she finished with a time of 2:12.78 and came in fifth place. 

The final event for the weekend was the 400 free relay as Garriock, Pettersson, Delehanty, and Hanes teamed to earn a 'B' cut with the finish of 3:32.50 that put the team in third place. 

The Pioneers ended the weekend in second place, as the team was preceeded by The College of New Jersey.  Southern Connecticut earned a third place finish for the weekend.

Next on the schedule for C.W. Post will be the ECAC championships next weekend.  The event will take place from Friday, Feb. 24 to Sunday, Feb. 26 in Annapolis, Md.
