BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 20, 2012) – Four scorers in double figures paced a potent C.W. Post offense, as the men's basketball team cruised to a 87-53 victory over the Dowling Golden Lions on Monday afternoon in East Coast Conference action.

The Pioneers improve to 20-5 overall and 14-1 in the ECC, a game ahead of the District of Columbia in the standings.  It marks the fifth straight 20-win season for the Pioneers.  Dowling now stands at 10-14 and 6-8 in the ECC.

Dowling took a 6-2 lead before the Pioneers tied it at 6-6 at the 16:33 mark.  Over the next ten minutes however, the Pioneers engineered a 32-5 run, with Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) accounting for 11 of those points during the span.  The lead ballooned to 33-11 before the Golden Lions were able to respond with an 18-9 run to close out the half and cut the Pioneer lead down to 16 points (45-29) heading into halftime.

Dowling came out of halftime shooting well early and behind treys by Josh Malone and Justin Alexander and a layup by Leon Taylor, they cut the Pioneer advantage to 12, but C.W. Post responded with a three pointer by Terry Coleman (Newburgh, N.Y.), two free throws by Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) and five consecutive points by Bonneau, and pushed their lead back to 18 points.  A jumper by Carberry made it a 61-41 lead with 15:13 to play, and with the Pioneers firmly in control, the lead would never dip lower than 20 points the rest of the way, topping out at a 36-point advantage at the 5:38 mark (82-46).

Bonneau led the way with 25 points on an efficient 7-13 shooting effort including four treys and a 7-9 appearance from the line.  He also dished a team high six assists and added a block and a steal for good measure.  Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) checked in with 22 points, while Allen and Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) each registered double-doubles, as Allen scored 15 with 10 boards and Williams notched 14 points with 10 caroms.

Alexander and John Merchant reached double figures for Dowling with 11 points apiece.  The Pioneers held a sizeable 46-22 edge on the glass in addition to a better average from the floor – 53$ to 34%.  The Pioneers also scored 26 points off Dowling turnovers and were better in the paint (28-18) and on second chance points (9-0).

The Pioneers will take on second-place District of Columbia on Saturday for the Pioneers final game of the regular season.  The game will start at 3 p.m., and will be featured in the ECC's Doubleheader of the Week, broadcast by Pack Network.  The game also marks the senior day celebration for the Pioneers.  Fans are encouraged to wear gold and “Gold Out” the Pratt Center.

Also, fans are encouraged to continue to vote for Bonneau as he has moved on the third round and Final Four of the Dark Horse Dunker Competition.  The winner of the Dark Horse Dunker will compete in the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships in March on ESPN.  Voting for round three opened this afternoon.  To vote, visit facebook.com/collegeslam or Click Here!
