Men's Basketball Suffers First Conference Loss At Bridgeport, 88-86; Bonneau Scores 1,000th Point
Box Score BRIDGPORT, CONN. (Feb. 4, 2012) – Bridgeport came back from as many as 15 down in the second half to upend the C.W. Post men's basketball team, 88-86, early today, the first conference loss for the Pioneers this season.
The game also marked the 1,000th career point for senior guard

Bridgeport improves to 8-3 in the ECC with a 13-8 overall record while the Pioneers fall to 15-5 overall with a 9-1 conference mark.
Both teams shot well during the first half, with C.W. Post having the slight edge over the Purple Knights 55.2 percent to 52.9 percent. The Pioneers also connected on nine of 12 free throw attempts while Bridgeport did not get an attempt from the free throw line during the first half as the Pioneers went into the locker room at the break with a seven point lead, 46-39.
Less than two minutes into the second half, C.W. Post's lead had grown to as large 15 after a
Terry Coleman (Newburgh, N.Y.) three pointer. Bridgeport then went on a quick 12-0 run over the next three and half minutes to cut the deficit to three and then eventually took a short lead with a little over 12 minutes remaining.
After a back and forth affair for the remaining time left, Bridgeport took back the lead for good on a layup by Llyod Antoine with 1:26 remaining in regulation. Darian David then knocked down clutch free throws with two seconds remaining to help secure the victory for Bridgeport. After being fouled,
Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) connected on one free throw with a second remaining and the Pioneers were unable to come up with a shot to push things to overtime.
Despite the loss,
Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) poured in a game-high 31 points to lead all scorers. The senior guard connected on seven shots from beyond the arc to help account for his game-high and milestone evening. Allen followed with 20 points while Coleman came away with 14 points and four steals.
Bridgeport had four players in double-figures, with Hakeem Rodriguez leading with 22 and David contributing 21. The Purple Knights held the advantage on the backboard with a 45-36 edge held the Pioneers to 30 percent shooting during the second half.
C.W. Post will return home on Wednesday, Feb.8, for a conference matchup. The Mavericks of Mercy will be the opponent for the women's and men's doubleheader, as the men's game will get underway at approximately 7 p.m.
