Men's Basketball Handles Mercy, 98-67
Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 8, 2012) – Five Pioneers scored in double figures as the men's basketball team took a 98-67 decision from the Mercy Mavericks on Wednesday night in East Coast Conference action.
C.W. Post improved to 16-5 overall and 10-1 in ECC play while Mercy slipped to 3-19 overall and 2-10 in the ECC.
The Pioneers led wire to wire in the contest, as
Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) started the scoring with a three pointer en route to 14 first half points for the senior guard. At the midpoint of the first half, the Pioneers extended their lead into double digits following a dunk by
Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.), and the hosts took a 14 point lead into halftime.
The second half saw the Pioneers firmly in control as they quickly pushed the lead in the 20-point range after a layup by Allen at 16:48. The hosts cemented the victory as their lead ballooned to a 32 point advantage behind 56.7% shooting from the floor (38-67) and a 40.9% mark from beyond the arc (9-22). Mercy held a slight advantage on the boards, 33-31, but the Pioneers had a much better assist-turnover ratio; 21-9 as opposed to 18-18 for the Mavericks. C.W. Post took advantage of Mercy miscues for 27 points off turnovers.
Bonneau paced the Pioneers with 21 points on the evening, while
Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) was right behind him with 20 points.
Vince Rosario (Newark, N.J.) chipped in with 19 points off the bench, while Allen scored 13 and
Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) rounded out the Pioneer scoring effort with 12 points.
Terry Coleman (Newburgh, N.Y.) registered nine assists to the score sheet.
Colin Senior scored 13 points and Kortney Parker added 11 for Mercy.
C.W. Post travels to St. Thomas Aquinas for a 3 p.m. matchup on Saturday.
