Volleyball Voted Fourth In ECC Preseason Poll
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Aug. 24, 2012)—The LIU Post volleyball team has been selected by the conference's coaches to finish fourth in the ECC according to the 2012 preseason poll.
LIU Post compiled 54 total points, including one of the nine first place votes, placing them fourth in the preseason poll behind the University of Bridgeport, the New York Institute of Technology, and Dowling College. Bridgeport received four first place votes amassing 75 total points, which was good enough for a seven point lead over No. 2 NYIT.
The Pioneers finished last season with a 17-15 record, including a tally of eight wins and six losses in conference play and a trip to the ECC tournament.
The Pioneers return three key players from last year's squad, including two-time All-Conference Second Team member, junior
Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii). Namahoe led the team in kills, with 336, and service aces, with 38. Also returning is senior
Lisa Delfs (Canandaigua, N.Y.), who led the team with 0.87 blocks per set and was second on the squad with 75 total blocks. Rounding out the returners is sophomore
Heather Adams (Centerville, Ohio). Adams led the Pioneers in blocking, totaling 78 on the season.
The Pioneers kick off the 2012 season Friday, Aug. 31 at 3p.m. against Holy Family University in Millersville, Pa. as both teams will be participating in the Millersville Tournament that weekend. LIU Post opens up play in the Pratt Recreation Center with their home tournament the weekend of Sept. 14-15 as they host Caldwell College, Pace University, and Adelphi University. Conference play will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 18, as Post travels to Old Westbury to face NYIT at 7 p.m.
