Volleyball Takes Two At Home Tournament

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 14, 2012) -The LIU Post volleyball team added two wins to its record after day one of the LIU Post Invitational at the Pratt Recreation Center on Friday. The Pioneers downed Caldwell College 3-2 in their first match of the day, and followed that with a 3-1 win over Pace University.
The Pioneers and Cougars battled it out over five sets, going back and forth with Post pulling out the win with set scores of 22-25, 26-24, 22-25, 26-24, and 17-15. Junior
Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) led all players in the first game with another solid double-double with 20 kills and 27 digs. Freshman
Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) had a game-high 33 assists and fellow freshman
Katie Barto (East Rockaway, N.Y.) added 26 assists.
Susy Cricchi (Borgovelina, Rieti, Italy),
Heather Adams (Centerville, Ohio), and
Melissa Hansen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) all added double-digit kills for the Pioneers.
Caldwell's Rachael DiLeonardo had a double-double tallying 11 kills and 15 digs. Two other Cougars added double-digit kills, two more tallied double-digit digs, and Athena Nestoras put up 24 assists.
Game two saw more dominance by the Pioneers with set scores over Pace of 26-24, 20-25, 25-18, and 25-23. Namahoe recorded her second double-double of the afternoon with 13 kills and 20 digs. Senior
Lisa Delfs (Canandaigua, N.Y.) added 12 kills, and Adams tallied her second double-digit kill total on the day. Amador once again led the Pioneers with 20 assists. The Setters' Brooke Speyerer recorded a game high 28 assists.
LIU Post improves to 7-3 on the season. Caldwell drops to 3-6, and Pace falls to 5-7.
The Pioneers wrap up action of their home tournament tomorrow at the Pratt Recreation Center with a 6 p.m. match-up against Adelphi University.
