Volleyball 1-1 On Day 2 of The NE-10/ECC Challenge; Hansen Named To All-Tournament Team

WALTHAM, MASS. (Sept. 22, 2012) – After day two of the NE-10/ECC Challenge, the LIU Post Volleyball team finished 1-1 on the day and 1-2 for the tournament. The Pioneers dropped its first match of the day with a 3-1 loss to University of Massachusetts-Lowell (25-18, 16-25, 25-20, 25-21), but LIU Post stormed back in the second match to take the win versus Bentley University 3-0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-21).
LIU Post evens out its record at 8-8, UMass-Lowell improves to 5-5, and Bentley drops to 3-9.
UMass-Lowell took the four set win thanks to 11 kills by Brooke Peterson, three Riverhawks with double-digit dig totals, and two with double-digit assist totals. The Pioneers'
Heather Adams (Centerville, Ohio) led all players on the court with 14 kills, and
Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Three other Pioneers recorded double-digit dig totals. Freshman
Monica Amador (Cedar Park, Texas) dealt a game high 23 assists.
LIU Post fared much better in the second game of the afternoon taking three straight sets to record the win versus Bentley. Namahoe tallied 10 kills in the game to lead the Pioneers. Adams finished with an impressive .412 hitting percentage. Amador once again had the high assist total for the Pioneers with 16.
Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawaii) scooped up a game best 10 digs.
Freshman
Melissa Hansen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was named to the NE-10/ECC Challenge All-Tournament team finishing the three matches with a total of 19 kills.
The Pioneers return to action and hit the road Tuesday, Sept. 25 to face off against conference foe Mercy College at 7 p.m.
