Women's Swimming Kicks Past Bridgeport, 120-68

BRIDGEPORT, CONN. (Jan. 26, 2013) –
The LIU Post women's swimming team won nine of 11 events en route to a 120-68 victory over the University of Bridgeport Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Marthe Soerensen (Stavanger, Norway) was the only swimmer in the meet to record two individual first place finishes. Soerensen finished the 200-meter freestyle in a time of 2:07.76, just ahead of Bridgeport's Sara Savovic.  She then edged out Alja Tavcar of Bridgeport in the 100-meter freestyle finishing with a time of 59.65, just ahead of Tavcar at 1:00.16.

Freshman Meghan Brazier (West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) ousted teammate Courtney Delehanty (Oceanport, N.J.) in the 50-meter freestyle with the pair finishing with times of 27.18 and 27.41, respectively.  Junior Tamara Garriock (Duncan, British Columbia, Canada) registered the first place finish with a time of 2:23.05 in the 200-meter individual medley, finishing a full six seconds ahead of second place finisher from Bridgeport Anna Krasnowska  Freshman  Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.) blew away the competition in the 200-meter butterfly, finishing with a time of 2:15.41.  Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden) took a first place finish in the 200-meter backstroke, finishing with a time of 2:12.85, 10 full seconds ahead of the second place finisher. The final individual first place finish for the Pioneers came from Sandra Luiga (Jarfalla, Sweden).  Luiga finished the 200-meter breaststroke ahead of Garriock, finishing with times of 2:42.02 and 2:49.47, respectively.

In the two relay events of the meet, Pioneer squads grabbed the first place finishes.  The Pioneer relay team 'A' finished just ahead of the Bridgeport squad in the 200-meter medley relay, with times of 2:01.35 and 2:02.40, respectively.  In the 200-meter freestyle relay, Pettersson, Delehanty, Kwok, and Soerensen teamed up to take the first place finish with a time of 1:48.38.

The Pioneers return to action Friday, Feb. 1 as they host Sacred Hear University at 6 p.m. in the Pratt Recreation Center Natatorium.
