PHOENIX, ARIZ. (Nov. 15, 2012) – The LIU Post women's swimming team is ranked ninth in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division 2 Swimming and Diving Team Rankings.  This is the highest national ranking in program history, and the Pioneers are currently enjoying a record-breaking season to go along with this ranking.

Freshman Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.) has broken into the college scene in a major way, currently leading all of Division II in both the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard butterfly with times of 53.93 and 2:00.16, respectively. Those times also place her as the fastest in the events in Pioneer history.  She also has registered the second best 200-yard individual medley time in the nation finishing with a time of 2:05.02, which is also good for the top Pioneer time in history.  Right behind her in that event is junior Tamara Garriock (Duncan, British Columbia, Canada) who has posted a time of 2:05.06, good for the third fastest time in the 200-yard individual medley.  Kwok has also garnered the team record and third fastest time in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 55.64.

Three relay teams for the Pioneers have also registered top-five times in all of Division II and are Pioneer team records.  The 400-yard medley relay team compiled of Kwok, Garriock, sophomore Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden), and freshman Marthe Soerensen (Stavanger, Norway) are currently ranked second after finishing the event with a time of 3:48.80.  The same group of four made up the Pioneer relay team that is currently ranked fifth in all of Division II with a time of 1:44.33 in the 200-yard medley relay.  Garriock, Kwok, Soerensen, and sophomore Angelica Norrena (Solna, Sweden) also teamed up in the 800-yard freestyle event and registered a time of 7:36.99, good for fifth in all of Division II.

The Pioneers have also combined for four additional individual times and two more relay times that have cracked the top-10 nationally including Pettersson's Pioneer record time of 2.01.68 in the 200-yard backstroke, and the squad has a total of 28 different times that appear in the top-35 times for each event in all of Division II.  Senior Sandra Luiga (Jarfalla, Sweden) also broke an all-time Pioneer record, swimming a 4.34.46 400-yard individual medley.

The Pioneers look to continue their successful season after the holiday break, as they host East Stroudsburg University on Jan. 15 at 7 p.m.
