Men's Basketball Scorches Roberts Wesleyan, 100-58

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (January 9, 2012) – The LIU Post men's basketball team shot a season-high 53.4% from the floor in a 100-58 East Coast Conference victory over the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks on Wednesday evening at the Voller Athletic Center.  The Pioneers saw six players score 10 or more points as they reached the century mark for the first time this season. 
 
The Pioneers win their ninth straight game as they improve to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in conference action, while Roberts slips to 5-8 on the season and 2-3 in ECC action. 
 
Senior Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) scored a game-high 21 points, shooting a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line.  Junior Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) added 15 points off the bench as well as six rebounds, while senior Jonathan Kohler (Bordentown, N.Y.) was close behind with 13 points.  Junior Amir Tarif (New York, N.Y.) scored a career-high 12 points on 3-3 shooting from the floor and a 6-7 effort from the charity stripe.  Junior JaMario Clayton (Durham, N.C.) and freshman Emile Blackman (Dix Hills, N.Y.) each added ten points. 
 
The Pioneers grabbed an initial lead, pushing to a seven-point advantage at the 13:40 mark (17-10) , but the Redhawks battled back to make it a one-point contest (20-19) with 11:29 to play.  But a 21-4 run over the next eight minutes ballooned the visitor advantage to a comfortable 18 points, and although Roberts righted the ship as William Bromirski hit two quick threes, the Pioneers took a 12-points advantage into the halftime break. 
 
The Pioneers lead in the second half never dipped below ten points, and the visitors stretched it to a comfortable 25-point advantage behind a torrid 57% shooting effort in the half.  The game turned into a rout late in the second half as the Pioneers held a 30, then 40 point advantage and eventually won by a 42-point margin. 
 
The Pioneers outshot the Redhawks, who finished with a respectable 43.9%, as the visitors posted a season-high percentage from the floor.  LIU Post hit five three pointers and Roberts hit four, and the Pioneers had a tremendous 41-19 advantage on the boards.  The Redhawks committed 25 miscues and the Pioneers took full advantage, scoring 44 points off turnovers. 
 
Bromirski led the Redhawks with 15 points. 
 
The Pioneers take on the District of Columbia on Saturday afternoon in the next contest on their slate, hosting the Firebirds at the Pratt Recreation Center at 3:30 p.m.
