Volleyball Sweeps Franklin Pierce, 3-0

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 11, 2013) - Junior middle blocker Heather Adams (Centerville, Ohio) led the LIU Post women's volleyball team with a consistent attack game, as the Pioneers swept their non-conference opponent Franklin Pierce, 3-0, Friday night at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville, N.Y.
Franklin Pierce (5-5) opened the first set with an 8-3 lead, before LIU Post (15-4) put together a five-point run to tie the score at eight. Eleven tied scores followed with the last tie coming at 24-all, before a kill by freshman Shelby McCool (Eugene, Ore.) and a Raven attack error clinched the 26-24 first set win for the Pioneers.
With junior Lulu Centro (Rome, Italy) serving to start the second set, the Pioneers scored five straight, courtesy of three kills by sophomore Melissa Hansen (Colorado Springs, Colo.), a service ace and a Raven attack error. Franklin Pierce registered three of the next four points to bring the score to 6-3, before the Pioneers rattled off a 10-point run with sophomore Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawaii) recording three service aces during the burst. Franklin Pierce battled back, bringing the score to 22-18, before three straight Raven errors closed out the set, 25-18.
Another hot start by the Pioneers led to a 25-15 win in the third set. LIU Post closed out the set on an 11-5 run, with the final two points coming off of Franklin Pierce attack errors.
Adams finished with 10 kills and a .421 hitting clip, as she was the only player on either side to reach the 10-kill mark. Centro tossed up a game-high 29 assists, and Ringor scooped a match-high 16 digs.
LIU Post finished with a team attack percentage of .372, 12 service aces, and three total blocks. The visitors hit just .225 with eight service aces and two total blocks.
Next up for the Pioneers is a Tuesday night match-up against East Coast Conference rival Bridgeport. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the Pratt Recreation Center.
