Daemen Slips By Volleyball, 3-1

AMHERST, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2013) - The LIU Post women's volleyball team dropped a match to East Coast Conference newcomer Daemen by a score of 3-1 (17-25, 25-14, 22-25, 24-26) Friday at Lumsden Gymnasium in Amherst, N.Y.

With the loss, the Pioneers fell to 17-6 on the season, including a 6-3 clip in ECC play. The Wildcats improved to 11-9, and evened up at 5-5 in conference action.

During the first set of play, the Pioneers managed just five kills and an attack percentage of .043, while the Wildcats tallied seven kills and a .227 hitting clip.

In the second set, Daemen matched its kills with seven, and lowered its attack percentage to .080, while LIU Post improved tremendously with 13 kills on a .393 hitting clip. The third set, the Wildcats sported 15 kills and five errors for a .312 attack percentage, and the Pioneers once again had 13 kills, and a .150 attack percentage. Despite having a .341 hitting clip and 16 kills, the Pioneers dropped the fourth set to the Wildcats, who managed 18 kills and a .471 hitting clip.

A trio of Pioneers finished the night with double-digit kill totals, with senior Makamae Namahoe (Hilo, Hawaii) and sophomore Melissa Hansen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) each totaling 11 kills. Senior Susy Cricchi (Borgovelino, Rieti, Italy) added 10 of her own. Junior Lulu Centro (Rome, Italy) notched 32 assists on the night, while sophomore Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawaii) had a team-high 14 digs.

Four Wildcats also totaled at least 10 kills, with Ye Wang knocking down a match-high 14 kills.

The Pioneers look to bounce back with another ECC tilt, this time in Rochester, N.Y., against Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday (Oct. 26) at 7 p.m.
