McCool's Double-Double Lifts Volleyball to 3-1 Win at Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Oct. 26, 2013) - Freshman outside hitter Shelby McCool (Eugene, Ore.) registered her sixth double-double of the season Saturday afternoon, as the LIU Post women's volleyball team picked up a 3-1 win over East Coast Conference foe Roberts Wesleyan in Rochester, N.Y.

With the win, the Pioneers improved to 18-6 on the season and 7-3 in ECC action. The Redhawks fell to 7-11 overall and 2-8 in conference play.

The Redhawks strung together three straight points after the score was tied 8-8, before the Pioneers added a run of six points to take a three point lead (14-11). A few points later, LIU Post put together another run, this time, 7-1. A bad set by the Redhawks resulted in the final point of the set, giving the Pioneers the 25-21 win.

In the second set, the Redhawks held an advantage for the majority of the set. They battled back from the first set loss with a 25-17 win to even the score at 1-1.

After RWC started the third set with a 5-3 edge, the Pioneers answered with a 7-1 run to take a 10-6 lead. The two squads battled point for point late into the set, but after the Redhawks tied the score at 24-all on a bad Pioneer set, LIU Post knocked down back-to-back kills by sophomore Melissa Hansen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and McCool to take the third set, 26-24.

The fourth set was also decided in extra points, as the two squads were tied at 24- and 25-up, before the Pioneers were able to string two points together for the win. McCool tallied back-to-back kills to secure LIU Post's 27-25 victory in the fourth and final set.

McCool led the Pioneers with 14 kills and 16 digs, while teammates Hansen and Susy Cricchi (Borgovelino, Rieti, Italy) chipped in with 13 kills apiece. Junior Lulu Centro (Rome, Italy) tossed up a game-high 49 assists.

For the Redhawks, Corey Phillips was the lone player to reach double-digit kills with 12.

Next up for the Pioneers is an ECC clash against NYIT on Tuesday (Oct. 29) at 7 p.m. at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville, N.Y.
