No. 15 Men's Soccer Draws Even at UDC, 2-2 10/30/2013 10:14:00 PM Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 30, 2013) - On Wednesday afternoon, the 15th-ranked LIU Post men's soccer team registered its second-straight tie, playing to a 2-2 stalemate versus District of Columbia at the UDC Athletic Field in Washington, D.C. The Pioneers (14-1-2, 7-0-2 ECC) got out to a hot start, netting the first two goals in a span of 3:41. Freshman forward Johann Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) opened the scoring at the 13:04 mark, when he headed in a ball from inside 18, off a feed from sophomore midfielder Matias Ruiz (Southampton, N.Y.). Then, with 16:45 elapsed, senior midfielder Jonathon Watkin (Doncaster, England) doubled the visitors' lead. He corraled a through ball from junior forward Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway) and cashed in, beating Firebirds' sophomore keeper Louis Connor (Birmingham, England), who collected five saves. UDC (7-5-3, 2-4-3 ECC) would slice the deficit in half before the intermission though. Freshman midfielder Nenad Smiljanic (Barnsley, England) punched in a cross from freshman forward Felix Angerer (Bayreuth, Germany), making it 2-1. During the latter stanza, neither squad mustered much offensive production, until the hosts evened things up in the 79th minute. Senior back Bakary Coulibaly (Bamako, Mali) put back a rebound, which originated off a shot by Sam Rowden (Lincoln, England). That sent the contest into overtime. In the two 10-minute extra sessions, LIU Post outshot UDC by a 5-2 count. However, the Pioneers and Firebirds were unable to find the mesh, and settled for the draw. Between the pipes, senior goalie Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) made three saves for LIU Post. Overall, the green and gold owned a 15-14 edge in shots. Both teams earned seven corner kicks apiece. Head Coach Andreas Lindberg and the Pioneers round out the 2013 regular season Saturday (Nov. 2) at Queens. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. Print Friendly Version
