Women's Tennis Picks Up 7-2 Victory at STAC
SPARKILL, N.Y. (Oct. 5, 2013) - The LIU Post women's tennis team won two of three doubles flights, and five of six singles matches Saturday, en route to a 7-2 triumph versus St. Thomas Aquinas in an East Coast Conference clash in Sparkill, N.Y. With the win, the Pioneers now boast an overall record of 3-5, with a league mark of 3-3.
At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Lucie Chrastecka (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) and freshman Heena Kewalramani (Bangkok, Thailand) made quick work of Bianca Signore (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Candice Zugibe (Garnerville, N.Y.), 8-1. Then, in the second-doubles position, sophomore Amanda Gaimaro (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and freshman Laura Harwell (Alabaster, Ala.) bested Shannon Biehle (Tomkins Cove, N.Y.) and Raven DeLeon (Bushwick, N.Y.), 8-2. The Pioneers, however, fell in third doubles (8-3), but maintained a 2-1 lead heading into singles action.
In the one-on-one battles, LIU Post took the first four from STAC (3-5, 2-4 ECC), and secured the victory. At No. 1 singles, Chrastecka won an 8-0 pro set tilt against Samantha Vinci (Hauppauge, N.Y.). Kewalramani posted a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) triumph in second singles versus Signore. Harwell yielded just three games to Zugibe in a 6-0, 6-3 win at the third position. Lastly, in the fourth-singles flight, Gaimaro beat Biehle in straight sets by identical 6-4 counts.
Head Coach Carl Summerlin and the Pioneers are back in action Wednesday, Oct. 16 at NYIT in Old Westbury, N.Y. First serve is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
